¡°My current studio is a converted garage in my backyard. It is fairly spacious and all mine. For the first time, I can play loud music if I want to ... I have three tables set up. One with stacks of paper, drawings, and drafts; one with art books, picture books, and my computer; and the third has paint, water and all my supplies. It¡¯s a real mess, but I love it.
We lost a dear friend and editor at Groundwood Books, Sheila Barry. She was a mentor to many of us authors and illustrators. Before she passed away, I was able to show her this book in its early stage. Afterward, finishing this story allowed me to process my loss. In many ways, I am the character in this book.¡±
